Floor Show Extravaganza!
As a part of Chelmsford's Tinseltown Spectacular on Sunday 23rd November, High Chelmer Shopping Centre invited members of the shopping public to enjoy their Floor Show Extravaganza!For the past six months High Chelmer has undergone a facelift, which culminated in the opening ceremony taking place on Sunday. The Centre's Floor Show commenced with Councillor Tom Willis, Mayor of Chelmsford, officially revealing High Chelmer’s new-look main entrance and refurbished East Mall. Councillor Willis was also joined at the opening ceremony by Mick McDonagh (High Chelmer’s Centre Manager), Carley Taylor-Neilson (Deputy Centre Manager) and two nine-foot stilt-walking courtesans!

High Adventure at High Chelmer!
On Saturday 30th August, High Chelmer erected a 24ft rock climbing wall in Market Square and gave shoppers the chance to scale to new heights during the Centre’s ‘Get Your Rocks Off’ summer promotion.
The day was a resounding success, seeing both children and adults climbing the wall with the help of trained instructors who were on hand to offer advice and assist with the climbing effort. Everyone who ventured up the wall gave a donation to the Farleigh Hospice, helping to raise over £250 on the day! The Farleigh Hospice commented: “This type of event is vital to Farleigh. High Chelmer has continued to help us provide vital help and care to patients and families in the mid-Essex area, and we would like to thank all those who helped out and supported.”

A Picture Perfect Summer!
Throughout the summer, High Chelmer Shopping Centre invited shoppers to enter their 2008 Summer Magazine competition for the chance to win a Sony Bravia 32” LCD TV worth £499.99!This amazing prize, in association with the Sony Centre, had everything to put one lucky winner in the picture for the remaining days of summer and beyond. With an array of features including ultra-wide viewing angles for clearer images, virtual Dolby surround sound and Bravia Theatre Sync, it’s hardly surprising that the Centre was inundated with entries for this HD Ready LCD TV!
Stephen Hallam from Chelmsford was chosen as the winner at the end of August and was presented with his prize by Carley Taylor-Neilson, High Chelmer’s Deputy Manager, and Paul Thorne from the Sony Centre.

The central area has been excavated with underground mechanical and electrical enabling works taking place, where upon the floor will be screeded and opened for public access. Works will then commence to the outer perimeter with bridge links across work areas to shop entrances, these areas will then in turn be screeded in preparation for the whole of the area to be tiled, please see the plan above. Bulk head’s above will be removed to enable preparation for the new ceiling and lighting similar to that of Central Square.

Front Entrance
Meanwhile at the front entrance to the centre scaffolding and crash decks are being erected to enable us to start removing the existing structure in preparation for the new scheme, as shown in the artists’ impression above. A vast majority of the above works will be taking place at night so as not to inconvenience business. We appreciate your co-operation during this time of change, which will ultimately improve the public environs of the centre for everybody.

Boots the Opticians - New Store Now Open!
We welcomed a new opening in the Centre this Tuesday, 1st July. Boots the Opticians opened their doors at 10.00am. The new store is located in Unit 2, East Mall.Not only that, but we would like to congratulate Boots Opticians Chelmsford, who reached the final six in The 2008 Opticians Awards, Multiple Practice of the Year.

High Chelmer's High Octane Winner!
At the beginning of June, High Chelmer Shopping Centre fuelled shoppers’ sense of adventure when they gave them the chance to enjoy some high octane excitement in an F1 driving simulator!
The replica F1 car was positioned in Central Square for a whole weekend, providing the perfect opportunity for shoppers to put the pedal to the metal and test their driving dexterity, all in return for a donation to the Farleigh Hospice. The event was a huge success, with close to 100 people trying to achieve pole position in the simulator. And during the two days the Farleigh Hospice raised over £500!
In association with the High Octane promotion, High Chelmer also gave shoppers the chance to win 2 VIP tickets to the 2008 British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday 6th July!
The prize included a champagne reception at the venue, complimentary bar, silver-service four course lunch, souvenirs and reserved Grandstand seats. Unsurprisingly High Chelmer was inundated with entries for this exhilarating prize! The lucky winner was Rob Plum from Chelmsford who was presented with his tickets by Mick McDonagh, High Chelmer’s Centre Manager and Carley Taylor-Neilson, Deputy Centre Manager.

High Octane at High Chelmer!
On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June, High Chelmer Shopping Centre fuelled shoppers’ sense of adventure when they gave them the chance to enjoy some high octane excitement in an F1 driving simulator!The replica F1 car was positioned in Central Square on both days, providing the perfect opportunity for shoppers to put the pedal to the metal and test their driving dexterity, all in return for a donation to the Farleigh Hospice. To add to the excitement, the Centre also hosted a ‘fastest lap’ competition around the virtual Silverstone circuit. Chris Monk won pole position with a time of 1 minute 23.013 seconds and won £50 worth of High Chelmer Shopping vouchers. Ed Starr came second winning £25 worth of vouchers and Lee Sallows came third securing vouchers to the value of £15.
The event was a huge success, with close to 100 people trying to achieve pole position in the simulator. And during the two days the Farleigh Hospice raised over £500! Over the Easter period, High Chelmer Shopping Centre gave shoppers the opportunity to ‘rabbit on’ in style as part of their Easter promotion!During the Easter bank holiday weekend, High Chelmer’s Easter bunnies could be found in and around the Centre handing out Easter eggs, along with competition entry forms offering the chance to win the latest in mobile phone technology.
High Chelmer’s ‘Rabbit On’ promotion gave shoppers the chance to win an ultra stylish SIM-free LG KF600, courtesy of Phones 4u. The LG KF600 features touchscreen technology, 3.0 megapixel camera, MP3 player, video recording facility and touch control games. What’s more, it recently won the iF Product Design Award 2008! The Centre was inundated with entries from people hoping to get their paws on this egg-citing prize! The lucky winner, chosen at the beginning of April, was Jane Tween from Chelmsford. Jane, and her son Craig, were presented with their prize by Mick McDonagh (Centre Manager, High Chelmer) and Bill Britton (Training Manager, Phones 4u).

At the beginning of February, High Chelmer Shopping Centre distributed anonymous Valentine cards to households in the Chelmsford area, all of which included a link to a mysterious website!valentinesurprise.co.uk not only gave visitors to the site Valentine inspired gift ideas, it also gave them the opportunity to enter High Chelmer’s Valentine competition for the chance to win £100 worth of vouchers to spend at one of High Chelmer’s stores.
The Centre was inundated with hundreds of entries, with the first 20 entrants all receiving a box of Thorntons continental chocolates. Tania Smith from Chelmsford was the lucky winner of £100 worth of vouchers for CameraWorld. She was presented with her prize by Mick McDonagh, High Chelmer Centre Manager, and Richard Kirkwood, Camera World Manager.

Picture Perfect New Year!
Throughout December, High Chelmer Shopping Centre invited shoppers to enter their Christmas competition for the chance to win a high definition Sony Camcorder. The prize, in association with High Chelmer's Christmas 2007 Magazine and the Sony Centre, was an ultra-compact, stylish HDR-SR5 - a breakthrough in the latest HDTV technology! The Centre was inundated with entries for this exciting prize, with the lucky winner chosen at random by the Sony Centre at the beginning of this month.
Brenda Bailey (centre) from Chelmsford was selected and visited the Centre along with her husband and grandson to collect her prize. She was presented with the camcorder by Mick McDonagh, High Chelmer Centre Manager (left), and Brian Whittaker from the Sony Centre (right).
