High Chelmer was proud to support and host the launch of the Chelmsford Poppy Festival on Friday 23 October 2026, marking the start of a special period of remembrance across the City.
The launch event welcomed volunteers, community groups, local organisations and residents who have worked tirelessly to create thousands of handmade knitted and crocheted poppies, which will be displayed throughout Chelmsford as a tribute to those who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces.
The festival, led by Chelmsford CVS in partnership with Chelmsford City Council, the Royal British Legion and local partners, showcases an extraordinary community effort, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds in a shared act of remembrance.
As one of the key display locations, High Chelmer is honoured to be hosting part of the installation and providing a central venue for both the festival launch and the local launch of the Royal British Legion’s annual Poppy Appeal on Saturday 24 October 2026.
Visitors to High Chelmer can view the striking poppy displays and support the Royal British Legion through donations, helping to provide vital assistance to serving personnel, veterans and their families. As highlighted within the exhibition, every donation makes a difference.
The Chelmsford Poppy Festival is a powerful reminder of the strength of community spirit, with tens of thousands of poppies created and assembled by volunteers across the district. High Chelmer is delighted to play a part in supporting an initiative that honours remembrance while bringing the community together.
Karen, Centre Manager at High Chelmer Shopping Centre, said:
“High Chelmer is proud to support the Chelmsford Poppy Festival and to host this year’s launch event. The displays are a wonderful tribute to those who have served and sacrificed, whilst also showcasing the incredible dedication and generosity of volunteers across our community. We are delighted to provide a space where visitors can reflect, remember and support the Royal British Legion’s important work.”
It has been an absolute delight to work with Sally and the team at Chelmsford CVS, whose enthusiasm, commitment and hard work have been instrumental in delivering such a special community event. We would also like to thank Jenny for her vision in creating the Chelmsford Poppy Festival. What began as an idea has grown into a powerful display of remembrance that has united thousands of volunteers and brought the community together in a truly inspiring way.
A special thank you goes to the Customer Service Team at High Chelmer for helping set up the displays, making sure the Centre was safe, clean and tidy for our special visitors. Also to Kingpins, one of High Chelmer’s tenants, for supporting the Chelmsford Poppy Festival launch by kindly providing drinks and canapés for guests attending the evening. Their generosity helped make the event a great success and reflected the community partnership that sits at the heart of the Centre.
This display will remain on show throughout the remembrance period, providing shoppers and visitors with an opportunity to pause, reflect and pay their respects.
